A Novel Secured Wireless Sensor Network with Ensemble based Intrusion Detection System and Middleware Architecture

Wireless Sensor Networks is a multi-hop network consisting of low cost sensor nodes which has an essential role in the fields of military, industry, medical and surveillance. With its evolving technology it is crucial to keep the network safe from malicious and masquerading attacks, hence giving the WSN confidentiality, authenticity and integrity. A WSN’s security should be both robust and efficient as low powered sensor devices can do limited processing. In this paper, a security system comprising an Intrusion Detection System (IDS) for authenticity and a low power Elliptic Curve based model for maintaining integrity and confidentiality is proposed. The system comprises a middleware, connected to all the sensor nodes. The middleware is further connected to a parameter generating module which generates curve parameters for both sender and receiver, during the connection request. Once the connection is set up between sender and receiver through the middleware, the sender can send data to the receiver. This network will be evaluated by the proposed IDS which evaluates the incoming traffic and accepts or rejects it based on a novel ensemble method consisting of a support vector machine, Gaussian and Decision tree polling. Finally, the data will reach the receiver node which can then use the previously generated salt to verify the hash value and collect the message.
