摘要

•Two isomeric coumarinyl photoremovable protecting groups (PPGs) with expanded π-conjugation 3a and 3b were synthesized.•PPG 3a is superior to 3b in photolytic efficiency; PPG 3b is superior to 3a in fluorescence quantum yield.•Photoactivable camptothecin prodrug 3aCPT was prepared and characterized.•In vitro investigation on 3aCPT against MDA-MB-468 cells verified 3a has good potential for pharmaceutical applications.
