摘要
Although every magnetosphere discussed in this book is asymmetrical to some extent, the term "asymmetrical magnetosphere" has become a short-hand for referring to Uranus and Neptune due to their unique geometrical configuration. In this chapter we discuss the unique geometry of these magnetospheres and its physical implications. In particular we consider the approximations used in studying most magnetospheres and how these cannot be made at Uranus and Neptune. We also discuss the different modes of solar wind-magnetosphere interaction at the heliocentric distance of Uranus and Neptune. These ideas may also have relevance for the stellar windexoplanet interaction.
