Reduced mechanical hypersensitivity by inhibition of the amygdala in experimental neuropathy: Sexually dimorphic contribution of spinal neurotransmitter receptors

•CeA block reduces mechanical hypersensitivity in neuropathic males and females.•Effect by CeA block is reversed by a spinal α2-AR antagonist in males.•Effect by CeA block is reversed by a spinal dopamine D2-R antagonist in females.•Effect by CeA block is reversed by spinal antagonists of 5-HT1A- or GABAA-R in both sexes.•Effect by CeA block on ongoing pain is reversed in both sexes by an α2-AR antagonist.
