Reliability analysis with correlated random variables based on a novel transformation, adaptive dimension-reduction and maximum entropy method

•The proposed transformation can achieve comparable results with the Nataf transformation.•The complex computation of correlation matrix in the correlated normal space is not required.•The adaptive dimension-reduction model can significantly mitigate the computational efforts.•The FEM-MEM is robust and effective to derive the unknown distribution.
