Excellent thermostability and blue light emitting properties of a new phosphor BaLa2Y2(SiO4)3:Tm3+

Developing blue light emitting phosphors under near UV-light excitation is very important to fibrate phosphor convert white light emitting diodes (pc-WLEDs). In this work, we designed and prepared a new type of blue phosphor BaLa2Y2(SiO4)3:xTm3+ and studied its structure and luminescent properties. The phosphor can generate blue emitting band at 452 nm with color purity of 99%, which was attributed to the 3H6 → 1D2 transition of Tm3+. Besides, this phosphor shows excellent thermal stability. The emission intensity of the BaLa2Y2(SiO4)3 doped with 0.06 mol Tm3+ remains 93.6% intensity at 473 K of that at 298 K. These results indicate that phosphor BaLa2Y2(SiO4)3:Tm3+ with blue light emission and good thermostability can be used for WLED lamps.
