Classification and provenance study of pottery obtained from the historical site of Kohneh-Gorab Amlash using micro-PIXE technique

In this article, 14 sherds of glazed pottery belonging to the middle of the Islamic period have been analyzed using the micro-PIXE technique. The pottery was obtained from the ancient site of Kohneh Gorab of Gilan in 2021. In the present study, the elemental composition of the main body, glaze, and the painting used in surface decorations have been measured using the micro-PIXE. Elemental compositions of the main body show three different types of silica used in the main body. Also, the elemental analysis of the glaze shows three types of alkali glaze, lead glaze, and lead–tin-alkali glaze, were applied in the pottery.
