Women's Representation Among Lead Investigators of Clinical Trials in Ophthalmology.

Female presence in ophthalmology has grown considerably over the past 2 decades, with female ophthalmology resident representation increasing from 29% in 2000 to 41% in 2020.1 Despite this growth, the proportion of women practicing ophthalmology does not reflect the United States population and there remains a lack of female representation among leadership in ophthalmology.1,2 For example, chairs of academic ophthalmology departments in the United States remain 90% male, there are fewer female presenters at the podium, and there are fewer female authors of editorials in major journals.
