Probing new DABCO-F based ionic liquids as catalyst in organic synthesis

•Two new 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO)-based ionic liquids with fluoride anion, are reported and characterized.•Thermal studies (TGA/DSC) were study decomposition temperature of the ionic liquids.•Quantum mechanical calculations were performed to find out geometry configuration and stability of ionic liquids.•Efficiency of designed catalysts was investigated by the syntheses of indoles and 1,4-dihydropyridines.•Excellent yields, short time and low catalyst loading highlighted the importance of prepared DABCO-F catalysts as ionic liquids as well as catalysts.
