摘要
of Results: The results of this retrospective chart review demonstrated a 92% prevalence of obesity in this cohort, with 38% of these patients classified as morbidly obese. The average BMI was 38.5 kg/m 2 .The percentage of patients found to have obstructive sleep apnea was 63%, with 50% reportedly using a CPAP machine. Conclusions: This study has demonstrated that floppy eyelid syndrome and obesity are strongly correlated. This study found that obesity was more consistent with floppy eyelid syndrome than obstructive sleep apnea. The medical evidence strongly suggests that obstructive sleep apnea is histologically correlated to floppy eyelid syndrome through a decrease in elastin fibers. To further this study, it is planned to evaluate gastric tissue obtained from bariatric surgery performed on patients previously diagnosed with floppy eyelid syndrome. This will further determine if a decrease in elastin is the histopathologic change that causes the direct correlation between floppy eyelid syndrome and obesity.
