UWB Microstrip Antenna with U-Shape Slot for WLAN Band-Suppression Application

In the present paper, a microstrip based Ultra Wide-Band (UWB) printed antenna with U-shaped slot for WLAN frequency band suppression is proposed. The antenna has been printed on cost effective FR-4 substrate which has relative permittivity 4.4 and its thickness 1.6 mm. 30 x 30 x 1.6 mm 3 is the overall area of the designed radiating structure. The U-shaped slots are used to notch the WLAN band and two arcs with circular slot on the ground surface are embedded for improving the antennas bandwidth. The final optimized antenna, as demonstrated in this paper, has one notch band between 5 GHz – 6 GHz and the antenna operates between 3.0 GHz – 12.0 GHz with the VSWR<2. The efficiency and current distributions have been simulated for the resonant frequency range with the antenna having maximum gain between 4 dBi – 6 dBi. Finally, the experimental and simulated results are compared, and they are found to be in good agreement with each other.
