Sex differences in the relationship between aggression and symptoms of depression and anxiety in adults with refractory focal epilepsy

•Symptoms of depression and anxiety were related to aggression in adults with refractory focal epilepsy.•The relationships between aggression and symptoms of depression and anxiety were present in men but not in women.•Overall aggression and its subtypes, except verbal aggression, were similar in men and women.
