Hologram in Control Applications

Experimental work is an integral part of education at technical universities. Nowadays, new modern technologies enable to rely not only on physical laboratories but also on a various types of digital experiments. This paper describes an implementation of a experiment rendered as a 3D hologram. Following an analysis of various holographic hardware solutions and methods of 3D image rendering, the graphical model and the specifications for its creation are explained. The system architecture description is divided into three parts where the web application, its API, and the simulation environment are all examined in more detail. This scalable solution is prepared to incorporate other experiments in the future. The constructed system allows the users to upload a control algorithm and run it on a digital representation of a towercopter device, an actual physical experiment located at the university laboratory. The workings of the towercopter and its components are also briefly explained. The data collected from this simulated experiment is presented on the web application and the holographic equipment connected to the client computer. By seeing the behavior of the experiment during its runtime and execution, the student can better understand the given subject.
