Emergence of Tropheryma whipplei detection in respiratory samples by next-generation sequencing: Pathogen or innocent bystander?

We read with interest an article published by Peng et al. on the use of metagenomics next-generation sequencing (mNGS) in immunocompromised patients with suspected pneumonia.1 Here, we describe the use of NGS for detection of Tropheryma whipplei in respiratory samples collected from patients in our hospital. The clinical, radiological and microbiological characteristics of these patients were also analyzed.
