A C-band Pulse Power Amplifier for Radar Transmitter

As an important part of transmitter in radar system, the power amplifier is used to amplify the low power input RF signals. In this paper, a C-band power amplifier with an output power of 40dBm and a bandwidth of 640MHz is presented. The power amplifier is mainly composed of RF part and power-supply module. In order to meet the output power requirements, a two-stage cascaded structure by GaAs transistors is adopted. The overall size of the designed power amplifier is about 175mm$\times120mm\times$24mm and the power consumption is less than 17W (20% duty cycle). Measurement results show that the product possesses good performance which can meet the technical requirements well.
