Limited diagnostic utility of serologic testing for neurologic manifestations of systemic disease in the evaluation of suspected multiple sclerosis: A single-center observational study

•The clinical evaluation of a new diagnosis of MS typically includes serologic testing for mimics.•There are few studies evaluating the utility of such testing.•In our study of new patient referrals for MS, serologic testing did not change any diagnosis or management.•Instead, serologic testing results resulted in unnecessary additional testing and diagnostic delay.•Serologic testing in the assessment for routine MS may not be necessary.
