A Low-profile Broadband and High-gain Antenna Based on Metasurface

A wide band high gain antenna based on a non-uniform metasurface (MS) is designed. The antenna includes a slot antenna tasking as a radiation source and a non-uniform MS tasking as a vital element for gain improvement and bandwidth expansion. Further, the substrate thickness between slot antenna and metasurface is investigated. The substrate between the slot antenna and metasurface was replaced by a gap, reducing the production costs. In addition, both the impedance bandwidth and gain of the designed antenna were improved. The design results show that the operating bandwidth of the antenna is increased to 40% (5.2-7.8 GHz) and realized a maximum gain of 12.5 dB.
