Safety and Feasibility of Preoperative Hemodilutional Autologous Blood Donation and Transfusion in Dogs and Cats
Nihon jui masui gekagaku zasshi(2022)
Abstract
We performed preoperative hemodilutional autologous blood collection and transfusion in 42 dogs and cats undergoing standby surgery with a high risk of intraoperative bleeding. The protocol was developed based on the Japanese Society for Autologous Blood Transfusion guidelines. There were no serious adverse events associated with hemodilutional autologous blood collection and transfusion, and the procedure was safe. In addition, hemodilutional autologous blood Donation/transfusion was considered helpful because some patients were able to avoid the use of allogeneic blood transfusion.
