摘要
Use of brain function monitoring is gaining interest to improve patient safety during cardiac surgery and in the intensive care unit. In this review, we highlight the clinical relevance of brain monitoring, such as cerebral near -infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), processed electroencepha-lography (pEEG), and transcranial Doppler (TCD). We also present a clinical case to illustrate the potential of combining these technologies to optimise patient man-agement during cardiac surgery. Even if brain monitoring alters management, interpretation in brain function requires knowledge about hemodynamic parameters and should be combined with other monitoring technology.
