•As-needed use of ICS-formoterol has not been well implemented in patients with asthma.•Might be a lack of awareness of the updated recommendations from GINA report.•Insurance coverage of as-needed ICS-formoterol may be limited by its off-label use.•Areas for improvement available for pharmacist and other healthcare professionals to improve the implementation.
