Ultrasound-assisted preparation of Fe(OH)3@bacterial cellulose aerogel for efficient removal of organic contamination in water

•Cellulose deposited with Fe(OH)3 nanoparticles was ultrasound-assistant prepared.•The maximum CR adsorption 335 mg/g was achieved at optimal condition.•Adsorption mechanisms involve hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions.•Adsorption behavior was analyzed by kinetic, thermodynamic and isotherm studies.
