Lightweight, bacteriostatic and thermally conductive wood plastic composite prepared by chitosan modified biointerfaces

•Chitosan (CS) as an interfacial compatibilizer to enhance wood plastic composites.•10% CS resulting superior properties and the best cross-linking effect on product.•Stable physical cross-linked network formed by strong hydrogen bond of materials.•CS granted high thermal conductivity (1.21 W/mK) and antibacterial properties.•Production of wood plastic composite would solve environmental issue.
