•Single-cell RNA sequencing identifies VCAN(+) myofibroblast as a typical cellular hallmark of TAA.•VCAN(+) myofibroblast is closely associated with smooth muscle cell proliferation, migration and extracellular matrix disruption.•VCAN(+) myofibroblast is characterized by activation of PI3K-AKT signaling pathway.
