Upgrading technologies and catalytic mechanisms for heteroatomic compounds from bio-oil-A review

This paper reviews the research progress of heteroatomic compound treatment technology in bio-oil. Bio-oil fuels are expected to be a renewable energy source instead of fossil fuels. However, the heteroatomic compounds such as oxygen, nitrogen and sulfur compounds in bio-oil can affect the combustion performance and cause environmental impact during the combustion process, so the heteroatomic compounds need to be removed. The heteroatom removal techniques are widely used in the preparation of bio-oil from biomass, including biomass washing treatments, catalytic cracking, catalytic hydrotreating, and other techniques such as adsorption denitrification and adsorption dichlorination and co-pyrolysis. And the catalytic mechanism is discussed. The removal effects of different catalysts and different methods are also compared. Many researchers are using various techniques to treat heteroatomic compounds in bio-oil, so it is necessary to summarize and analyze them to provide a reference for future research directions.
