LIFE BIRTH AFTER A UTERINE TRANSPLANT PERFORMED BY A SWEDISH-ARGENTINE TEAM

Uterus transplantation is a treatment for the absolute uterine fertility factor that has proven effective after the first birth in history in 2014. On November 16th, 2019, case number 7 was carried out, using the uterine transplant protocol with robotic assistance, and with living donor. The recipient was a 31-year-old woman with Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser syndrome, and the living donor was her 37-year-old sister with a history of 3 normal full-term vaginal deliveries. Gynaecologists from the Argentine team (MVB, LS, and GB) participated in the pelvic preparation and graft transplantation surgery. The patient recovered without complications. In August 2020, the first transfer of a 5th-day embryo was not succesfull, but on September 30th, 2020, a second transfer of a blastocyst embryo was performed, achieving pregnancy. On June 2nd, 2021, Dr HB performed a scheduled caesarean section at 37.1 weeks, giving birth to a healthy female baby. Uterus transplantation has proven to be a useful procedure to restore fertility in patients with absolute uterine fertility factor.
