Through Wall Target Tracking Using Ultra-wideband Radar

Target tracking behind the wall is important in rescue mission and surveillance during war zone. However, sometimes it is difficult to track the human movements using Radar because of clutter diversity and inherent noise of the system. The clutter is mainly introduced in system due to thickness of wall, antenna coupling and multi-path reflections from the target. This paper presents tracking algorithm for multiple targets across the wall using Kalman filter (KF) with the help of stepped frequency continuous wave radar (SFCW) in Ultra-wideband (UWB) range. Adaptation of KF algorithm will provide estimation of next state of target based on its foregoing state with linear velocity. Also, this paper proposes a new method to track a single target across the wall for its actual movement while scanning in real time scenario. The proposed algorithm is verified experimentally with wall system setup and result shows that trajectory of target tracking is in reasonable agreement with actual movement of target.
