Low-profile Dual-band Antenna with Artifical Magnetic Conductor Ground for 5G Millimeter-wave Application

A dual-band low-profile planar antenna is proposed in this paper for $5\mathrm{G}$ millimeter-wave application. The antenna is made up of a rectangular patch above a dual-loop artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) ground plane. The rectangular patch can be designed to radiate through longitudinal and transverse modes at two working bands of 26.47 GHz - 30.61 GHz and 32.83 GHz - 38.69 GHz, which cover two 5G millimeter-wave wireless communication bands, respectively. The maximum gain reaches 6.92 dBi in the two operation bands. Moreover, by introducing a dual-band AMC ground plane, the proposed dual-band antenna can achieve an extremely low profile of $0.063\lambda$ (relative to the lowest frequency) and may find potential uses in 5G wireless communication systems.
