An insight into the TAM system in Alzheimer’s disease

•An overview of the structure, expression, and signaling pathways of the TAM system is introduced.•The TAM receptor pathways present protective roles in Alzheimer’s diseases.•The functional expression of the TAM receptors in microglia plays a critical role in dampening neuroinflammation and phagocytizing protein.•The changed expression of TAM receptors and ligands may become biomarkers of related disorders.•Relevant therapeutic strategies targeting the TAM system in Alzheimer’s diseases are summarized.
