ISAR Imaging of Multi-Target Based on Edge Detection of Range Profiles and Particle Swarm Optimization

For inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) imaging of multi-target, due to the coupling of the range profiles of different targets, conventional ISAR imaging method for single target is no longer applicable. In this paper, a novel multi-target ISAR imaging algorithm based on edge detection of range profiles (EDRP) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) is proposed. PSO is applied to estimate translational motion parameters and EDRP is utilized to determine whether the range profile of a certain target has been aligned. Through stepwise translational motion compensation and CLEAN-based image extraction, clear ISAR image of each target can be obtained in turn. Several simulations are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
