•Rectourethral fistulae were assessed using indocyanine green fluorescence imaging during LAARP.•Accurate intraoperative identification of the fistulous rectal tract was possible.•Indocyanine green-assisted visualization can reduce urological complications.•Indocyanine green injection is a feasible adjunct to locate rectourethral fistulae.
