Continuously reconfigurable groove gap component made: from waveguide to tunable filters

In this paper, novel filter designs using the Groove Gap technology with a contactless surface on both sides have been presented. The main idea of this paper is to design a Groove Gap Stop band unit cell at X-band with a double side air gap. By using this method, all the cells can move within the component without any risk of leakage. This study was done using CST and ANSYS as simulation tools and traditional CNC aluminium was used to manufacture the proof of concept between 8 and 12 GHz. Finally, a reconfigurable Groove Gap component is proposed that can be set as a waveguide or as a band pass filter whose order and frequency response can be continuously reconfigured, and a stop band filter.
