Science and legend in Jules Verne: Le Chateau des Carpathes

The vision of the nineteenth century developed by Walter Benjamin in his texts on Baudelaire and Paris is spectacularly seconded by -Verne's work, not only by the recurrent motifs used by the novelist, but also by the very quality of his view of his time. This article is devoted to showing how Les Voyages extraordinaires dives into the very heart of the "collective dream of the nineteenth century," to use -Benjamin's key phrase.
