Curvature modulated structural and magnetic properties of CoO/Co thin films deposited onto 2-D nanosphere array

•CoO/Co magnetic nanocaps were fabricated by depositing Co films on curved nanosphere (PS).•Films also deposited on bare Si substrate during the same deposition cycle.•The magnetic nanocap formation was confirmed from magnetic measurements.•The magnetic observations were further supported by structural and morphological observations.•The studied film and the reference film were grown in polycrystalline manner while their roughnesses were quite different as observed from XRD and XRR techniques respectively.
