••The SBA-15 mesoporous molecular sieve structure of silica can be infiltrated by electrolyte, providing a large number of lithium ion transfer channels.••SBA@NPC composites with tunable N content were fabricated.••Nitrogen-doped porous carbon can improve diffusion and migration kinetics of Li in the fabricated anodes.••Porous carbon can buffer the volume expansion of the anode during the charging and discharging process.
