Comparing the benefits of applying a vacuum assisted lancing device in reducing lancing pain, improving self-monitoring frequency and reducing HbA1c in people with diabetes

•Pain is the major limiting factor for the regular practice of self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG).•Painless lancing using ‘Genteel’ resulted in increased frequency of SMBG.•Significant reduction in HbA1c was observed while using Genteel in people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.•The subjects reported lower pain perception and high probability of using Genteel in future.
