N-doped carbon dots modified Bi2MoO6 microspheres as anode materials for high performance aqueous rechargeable nickel//bismuth batteries

•N-doped carbon dots (N-CDs)-induced Bi-O-C bond demonstrates the strong electron interaction in Bi2MoO6@N-CDs heterointerface.•N-CDs are used as “conductive agents” to prepare Bi2MoO6@N-CDs composites spatial and compositional diversity, performing excellent electrochemical properties.•Assembled Ni//Bi battery with Bi2MoO6@N-CDs as anode materials delivers the energy density of 50.85 Wh/kg along with power density of 344.27 W/kg at 0.5 A/g.
