摘要

•Porous bentonite/biochar composite sorbent was synthesized to remove EBBR dyes.•Composite sorbents showed increased microporosity and O-containing groups.•Maximum EBBR sorption capacity of bentonite/biochar sorbent was 2020.5 mg g−1.•Dominant mechanism of EBBR sorption was ion exchange and surface complexation.•Bentonite/biochar has great potential for environmental remediation application.
