摘要
Intraoral radiographs provide important diagnostic information to dentists, allowing them to create treatment options for their patients. A quality assurance (QA) program to optimize and maintain radiographic image quality is paramount to ensure high quality diagnostic images. This relies on proper maintenance of the digital imaging chain — x-ray generator, image receptors, display monitors/computers, and the overall setup of the system. An often overlooked component of the imaging chain is the connection of the intraoral sensor to the computer, specifically ensuring that the USB port used does not compromise image quality. Improper communication between the USB connector to a desktop computer system may result in the loss of image quality, including failure to capture an image. In the absence of guidance, the choice of a USB is guided by convenience; for example, using the USB port of the display monitor versus one on the computer.
