Industrial byproduct Iron ore tailings as ecofriendly materials in the utilization of cementitious composites

•Iron ore tailings have large stockpiles and low utilization rates.•Thus, their safe and effective disposal is essential for environmental protection.•This study evaluated cementitious composites prepared using iron ore tailings.•The study demonstrated its sustainable application as an eco-friendly material.•Incorporating 25% iron ore tailings ensured superior mechanical properties.•Life cycle tests showed iron ore tailings could help reduce environmental impact.
