•The evaporation profile, contact angle and contact line evolution of a HFE7100 droplet on substrates with different thermal conductivity were studied experimentally.•The evaporation process of HFE7100 droplets on both types of substrates belongs to the mixed evaporation mode.•The evaporation rate of HFE7100 can be divided into three stages.
