Pre- and post-cracking behavior of asphalt mixtures under modes I and III at low and intermediate temperatures

•Fracture behavior before and after cracking for HMA and WMA mixtures were evaluated using Gf pre-peak and Gf post –peak indices under modes I and III.•Resistance to elastic deformation of HMA and WMA mixtures was evaluated using TSI and TS indices.•The stiffness of the asphalt mixture can be estimated using the ENDB geometry based on the slope of the curve (before peak-load).•Polyester fibers and calcium lignosulfonate improved the fracture behavior before and after cracking at low and intermediate temperatures.•HMA mixture containing 0.25% polyester fibers and the WMA mixture containing 0.25% polyester fibers + 6% calcium lignosulfonate were the best mixtures.
