An LSTM-based adaptive prediction control model for the wire diameter control of high-precision optical fiber drawing machines

•A LSTM-based network for optical fiber diameter prediction is proposed.•LSTM-based network with relatively high complexity is unsuitable for prediction.•The proposed model can remedy the time delay issue of conventional methods.•The wire diameter error falls to ± 1.8 μm and the precision increases by 10 %.
