摘要
The ongoing study of ion – solid interactions is integral for the further development of advanced material technologies servicing semiconductor and nuclear materials. This review focusses on the in situ ion-irradiation, 1 MeV krypton ions, coupled with transmission electron microscopy technique used to characterise the radiation response of Ln2TiO5 (Ln = lanthanides and yttrium) series of ceramic compounds. This series consists of three distinct poly-types; orthorhombic, hexagonal and cubic symmetries, a total of 25 different compounds, allowing radiation response trends within and between structure groups to be investigated. There are three major radiation response characteristics investigated; fundamental damage cascade models, critical fluence of ions required for a crystalline to amorphous transition, and critical temperature for maintaining crystallinity.
