Removing Obstacles to AM Should Still Be the Focus: a Reply to Dickie Et Al.

In our recent review [1], we found that several obstacles often prevent successful implementation of adaptive management (AM), despite the fact that it is being widely promoted and deemed applicable in management of both scarce and abundant natural resources. Obstacles associated with the AM process per se, the ecosystem where AM is applied, or governance of the latter, may all come to play a more significant role in the future due to increased uncertainty in the wake of climate change and other anthropogenic drivers.
