Water-based green and sustainable extraction protocols for value-added compounds from natural resources

Natural resources are precious wealth of mankind, which contain abundant bioactive substances. Extraction technology plays an important role in extracting bioactive substances from natural resources. In recent years, scientists have made many attempts to find environment-friendly methods, such as green solvents (supercritical fluid and deep eutectic solvent) or some physical auxiliary methods (microwave-assisted and ultrasonic-assisted protocols). Of course, water is considered the least toxic and harmful solvent among all green solvents. Therefore, water-based green extraction methods have attracted more and more attention. This review briefly discusses the application of water-based green extraction methods in recent years. We believe that this mini-review is a good starting place for readers who are interested in green and sustainable water-based extraction protocols for value-added compounds from natural resources.
