Perception of Time and Its Representation in Technical Systems

Time is elusive. Is it a grand illusion perpetrated by the brain surrounding event horizons? Time is indeed a paradox. The future is at once right now, and right now is at once the past. Just as the digital world has played a pivotal role in how we perceive the passage of time, there is no doubt that the concept of time has a direct bearing on the design of digital things. This manifests itself in modern software and data systems where instantaneous state changes are commonplace. There are, however, some significant developments that greatly enhance software time management.
