Skeletal muscle atrophy, regeneration, and dysfunction in heart failure: Impact of exercise training

•Heart failure induces skeletal muscle atrophy and dysfunction, which decreases regular treatment and patient quality of life.•To date, no effective treatment for heart failure-induced muscle pathology is established, apart from exercise training.•Aerobic and resistance exercise training are both effective treatments in patients with heart failure for conferring health benefits, higher quality of life, and improved survival.
