Energy Management in Islanded DC Grid via SOE Estimation of Storage

Due to existing challenges, limitations, and uncertainty in the AC grid system, it is difficult to manage the electricity requirements of remote areas. In this context, a decentralized, more flexible, and easy to adopt, distributed generation and distributed storage architecture (DG and DSA) of standalone DC microgrid along with an efficient energy management scheme is proposed in this paper. The proposed microgrid is a junction of several nanogrids, that considers the operational impact of energy fluctuations from the photovoltaics (PVs) and batteries. The power-sharing algorithm is designed for the proposed architecture that takes decisions based on the state of energy (SOE) of battery. This scheme is implemented on four scenarios of load imbalance to test the reliability and accuracy of the entire system. All simulations are done on Simulink MATLAB.
