The Study of Millimeter-Band Multiple-Beam O-Type Vacuum Electron Devices

Miniature O-type vacuum electron devices (VEDs), such as traveling-wave tube (TWT), are very promising as compact sources of high-power coherent electromagnetic radiation of millimeter band. With the increase in operating frequencies, dimensions of the devices decrease proportionally. Therefore, to achieve adequate values of output power and gain, it is necessary to use spatially developed slow-wave structures (SWSs) and high-aspect-ratio sheet electron beams. In this paper, interdigital, ladder-type, and metamaterial-inspired SWSs for millimeter-band TWTs with multiple sheet electron beams are designed and their high-frequency parameters are simulated. All the structures are designed for adopting of a 10-15 kV double sheet electron beam.
