Evaluation of Aircraft Cable Screen Grounding on Cable Induced Current

The cable arrangement for civil aircraft is complex and some cables must be laid in areas without electromagnetic protection. When these cables penetrate pressure bulkhead, if the cable screen not bonded to the airframe, the current induced in exposed area will flow into the protection area through the cable. Used the FEKO CEM tool to perform simulations on 2 of scenarios involving the cable bundles connecting the HSTA to the HS-ACE, examined addressed the screen of the cable bundle terminated and un-terminated at the pressure bulkhead. The result shows maximum cable bundle current at the HS-ACE would be reduced significantly when cable bundle screen grounded at the aft pressure bulkhead.
